Summer '07 - A Blast
in Every Sense
Summer
may be over, but certainly not forgotten. Since 1987, BCA's offices
have been at 370 Lexington Avenue, in NYC. For over two decades, we've
toiled away, there for our clients without incident. Until this past
July 18th, when around 6:00pm, our building became the epicenter of
the ConEdison steampipe blast in midtown Manhattan. Unlike others not
so fortunate, all BCA staff in the building at that time managed to
escape without harm.
Escaping turned out to be easier than the turmoil that followed in the
aftermath. Unable to return to our premises for more than six weeks,
BCA quickly strung together a virtual operation. The American Association
of Advertising Agencies gave us short-term shelter in their swanky offices
in the Chrysler Building (membership has its privileges!). For the final
four weeks, our good friends at Fitzpatrick Hotel Group gave us use
of their boardrooms at The Fitzpatrick Grand Central and the Fitzpatrick
Manhattan hotels (now that's hospitality!).
"Given these adverse circumstances, I'm so proud of our team. We
remained open for business, and I would like to think our clients for
the most part didn't even notice a hitch, " said Jim Cronin.
The explosion was big news in the Big Apple for weeks. The New York
Post ran an article covering the theft that occurred when 370 Lex.
was unoccupied. BCA's Evelyn Galli was interviewed, detailing a list
of media swag that was looted, including a magnum of Dom Perignon. Quoting
Evelyn, "...now I'm sorry I didn't drink it." Cheers!
